Voltage and frequency control of standalone wind-driven self-excited reluctance generator using switching capacitors

Abstract This paper presents a methodology for voltage and frequency ( V–f ) control of standalone wind-driven self-excited reluctance generator (WDSERG). The is based on proposing two different compensation configurations using switching capacitors (short-shunt long-shunt compensation) control. dynamic steady-state performances the are discussed under operating conditions: wind speeds, load currents power factors. analysis done by developing complete model WDSERG including excitation load. Therefore, equivalent circuits proposed. values controlled adjusting duty cycle H-bridge with PI controllers. To validate proposed their models circuits, simulation results 1.5-kW experimental 0.2 kW driven DC motor, emulating turbine, carried out. show significant enhancement in regulation selected optimal capacitances each configuration; however, short-shunt preferred configuration as it controls output minimum required variation.
